What is Cyber Essentials?
In Short, Cyber Essentials is a UK Government information assurance scheme, which promotes the adoption of structured best practice information assurance policies. A framework, that includes simplified list of security controls, that protect against internet cyber threats.
Cyber Essentials assurance framework, is a guide for organisations to follow, plan, and implement.
The assurance framework consists of 5 key areas.
The 5 Key Areas of the Cyber Essential Framework:
access control
boundary firewalls
Internet gateways
malware protection
patch management and secure configuration
According to stats published by UK Gov, majority of cyber attacks use relatively simple methods to exploit basic vulnerabilities in computer software and computer systems.
There are tools and techniques openly available on the Internet which enable even low-skill actors to exploit these vulnerabilities. Properly implementing the Cyber Essentials scheme will protect against the vast majority of common internet threats.
